The Goal of the Syracuse Dance Academy is to offer quality technique classes in ballet, jazz, children’s dance, cheer, and tumbling.  We work to improve each student’s self-esteem in a positive and fun atmosphere, while providing excellent training for each individual.  Classes are offered for children beginning at 18 months. Our curriculum is based on classical ballet.  Costumes, music, and movements are conservative, modest, and age appropriate.  We do not teach your student a dance, we teach them how to dance.

    Students will receive basic dance instruction with emphasis on coordination, flexibility and rhythm. This is a Tap and Ballet class. They will learn basic dance steps and large locomotive skills. This is a fun and creative class.  Students are taught in a creative way with a ballet-based syllabus.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.

Due to the difference in development both physically and mentally we offer Children's Dance (CD) I, II, and III classes according to age.  This allows us to focus more in depth with each age group and teach them at their appropriate level.  Children's Dance I is for 3 year olds who are Pre-Preschoolers or those who will go to Kindergarten in 2 years.  Children's Dance II is for 4 year olds who may be in Pre-School and have only 1 year until Kindergarten and Children's Dance III is for Kindergarteners.  Students are expected to participate in the end of year recital.

Dress Code:  Leotards, tights/skirts, and tap shoes are required for this class.  Tap is the first part of class.  After tap students dance barefoot.  If your student does wear tights they need to be footless or stirrup tights.  Please have your student bring a bag and have her name in both of her tap shoes.  Bare midriffs are not allowed.  Dancewear & Shoes are available in the office at discounted prices. 


Classical Ballet: (Kindergarten and up - 1hour) (Beginning - Advanced Skill Level)

Students will receive Ballet instruction with emphasis on proper technique, rhythm, coordination, and flexibility in Classical Ballet. They will learn and develop skills while gaining knowledge of Ballet terminology.  Classical Instrumental Music is used.  We carefully screen all music so student can be uplifted and motivated with clean lyrics.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.  This class is will perform a Ballet routine at the end of year recital. 

Dress Code: Black Leotards, Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes are required for this class. Advanced class members should be on pointe.  Pointe shoes must be fitted and cleared with the teacher.  Hair pulled back away from the face. Dancewear & Shoes are available in the office at discounted prices.                                                                                                         


Jazz/Ballet: (1st grade and up - 1 hr)  (Beginning - Intermediate Skill Level)  jazz1.jpg (92747 bytes) click to enlarge

    Students will receive dance instruction with emphasis on proper technique, rhythm, precision, coordination, and flexibility in both Jazz and Hip Hop. This class will emphasize Leaps Turns and Basic Technique.  They will learn basic dance movements and skills while gaining knowledge of Ballet and Jazz terminology.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.  Students are expected to participate in the end of year recital. 

Dress Code: Leotards, tight/jazz pants, and black split sole jazz shoes are required for this class.  Dancewear & Shoes are available in the office at discounted prices. 

                                  


Jazz / Hip Hop Class: (1st grade and up - 1hr) (Beginning - Intermediate Skill Level)

Students will receive dance instruction with emphasis on proper technique, rhythm, precision, coordination, and flexibility in both Jazz and Hip Hop. They will learn basic dance movements and skills while gaining knowledge of dance terminology.  Age appropriate and movement and music is used.  We carefully screen all music so student can be uplifted and motivated with clean lyrics.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.  This class is will perform at the end of year recital. 

Dress Code: Leotards, tight/jazz pants, and black split sole jazz shoes are required for this class. Clean tennis shoes can also be worn. (these shoes should not be worn outside and kept for Hip Hop class only!)  Dancewear & Shoes are available in the office at discounted prices. 


Jazz Comp Class:  (Pre-school - 9th grade - 1 hr to 1hr 15 min once a week depending on age- prior dance experience recommended) Beginning - Intermediate Level

Students will receive dance instruction with emphasis on proper technique, rhythm, precision, coordination, and flexibility. They will learn basic dance movements and skills while gaining knowledge of dance terminology.  This class is ideal for students who want to only come once a week, but would like the opportunity to perform a little throughout the year.  This comp class is a prep team for the Show-Time Dancers and will compete in spring time competitions as well as perform at the end of year recital.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest. 

Dress Code:  Class uniform is black leotards, black jazz pants or tights, and black split sole jazz shoes.  No bare midriffs allowed. Dancewear & Shoes are available to students at discounted prices in the office.


Me & My Tot (18 - 36 months - 45 min.) Parents and toddlers will bond together, singing songs, playing games while developing coordination, listening, social, and large motor skills.  Class will consists of a variety of dance, singing, and tumbling. 

Dress Code: Dancewear for toddlers is not required, although many students do wear leotards and skirts.  We do carry toddler size dancewear and it is darling!  Comfortable clothing for parents is recommended.

    Students will receive tumbling instruction with emphasis on flexibility, agility, and ambidexterity. They will work to improve their strength, balance and coordination while practicing tumbling passes.  Classes are based more upon level than age.  Students will progress to the next level as they improve throughout the year.  Classes are offered once/ twice/three times a week.  "Fun Meets" will be held during the year for students to showcase their improvement (Rankings will not be given instead all student will receive a special award).  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.   Students are expected to participate in the end of year recital.

Dress Code: Leotards, footless tights, or bikers and bare feet are required.  No bare midriffs allowed. Dancewear & Shoes are available in the office at discounted prices. 


Show-Time Cheer:    Beginning - Intermediate Level

(1st grade & up - 1hr. to 1 hr 15 min. 2-3 times per wk) 

    Cheerleaders will receive instruction in cheer.  Students will learn proper technique, precision, teamwork, responsibility, and performing skills. Classes focus on:  cheer dance, jumps, kicks, arm angles, voice, tumbling passes, and rallying.   These classes are offered for students on an intermediate and advanced level.  Team placement by a staff member is required for this team. Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.  Cheerleaders in these performing groups are dedicated to improving themselves and their team.  Students are expected to participate in the end of year recital.

Dress Code:   Team uniform is required.  No bare midriffs allowed. Check the office for details


Show-Time Dance:         Intermediate - Advanced Level                                          

  (1 year of dance recommended - 5 years & up -  2-3 times per wk - 1hr. to 1 hr 30 min. each class time)            

    Students will receive proper dance instruction in both ballet and jazz.  Students will learn proper technique, precision, teamwork, responsibility, and performing skills.  This class is offered for students on an intermediate (Show-Time) and advanced (Front-Line) level.  Team placement by a staff member is required for this team.  Music, Movements, Costumes and Choreography are age appropriate and modest.  Dancers in this performing group are dedicated to improving themselves and their team.  Team uniform is required. Students are expected to participate in the end of year recital.  .
